This mountainous area meanders extensively along the Sumatran causeway. Mount Dempo is one of the mountains in the mountain range of Bukit Barisan. This one mountain, located in Pagaralam City, one of the cities in South Sumatra Province. To arrive there required a fairly long road trip. From Palembang city center, you can go directly to the terminal of Karya Jaya and then board the Inter City Intra Provincial bus (AKDP) majoring Palembang-Pagaralam. Schedule of this bus departure pretty much 08.00-17.00 in this case we boarded the bus Telaga Biru. Ticket is quite cheap not more than 75 rb rupiah. During the trip you will be treated to views of the city of Palembang. Passing one of the most iconic bridges in Indonesia. For you who have been to palembang has not been complete if it has not crossed Ampera Bridge. But wait, this time we will not discuss about the bridge Ampera but about a mountain which is the highest peak in South Sumatra. Dempo Volcano (GAD) thus its full name. As the name implies, this one mountain is indeed a volcano. Satatusnya currently is still active. So it is advisable to be careful when going there. Before leaving make sure you follow the news about the development of the status of his activities. Because it is very unfortunate when you've arrived in the City of Pagaralam but it turned out the mountain status alert. If the satatus like that, yes obviously this area is closed to the public. Because it is still active, this one mountain clearly has the potential to erupt at any time. Fortunately there are surveillance posts that will continue to monitor their liveliness status. Lucky when we get there this mountain area is still open. So, of course we are not wasting valuable opportunity, to rise to the top. Climbing dempo mountain first time started in the year .... Currently there are approximately some starting point of climbing. Among them is through the village 4 and Tugu Rimau. We started the journey from the point of climbing the monument Rimau. The path at this point of climb is notoriously difficult to conquer. Because it is steeper than the point of climbing through the village four. we chose to pass this path because the distance to be traveled is relatively closer. Because we are still a beginner so fit early in the beginning of the climb feels so heavy. Because of our body that rarely exercise and not yet familiar with the atmosphere in the mountains. Some of our crew felt cramps in the calf until in the 20th minute we had to rest. After resting for about 5 minutes we resumed our journey. While we were resting we tried to catch our breath while listening to the guides from our highly experienced guides. He was really able to re-embrace our spirit that seemed to fade because do not think if it turns out this climb is very heavy. Luckily we brought a guide to accompany our trip. He said it is natural for us beginners, let alone rarely exercise feel the cramps in the whole leg. Moreover, our bodies still need to adjust to the natural conditions. We finally decided to continue the journey after having enough rest and feel already quite used to the mountain atmosphere. After resting, it was true what the guide said. Our bodies began to get used and eventually travel more smoothly. We step slowly a step or two and then stop for a moment like that until finally we reach shelter 1. It was nice to get there, frankly we feel happy and tired it was worth paying already. Especially before the rain came there began to wet our bodies. Our euphoria finally ended already when our Guides said that our journey was still very long. Shelter 1 is just a prefix for the steep terrain ahead. We have not reached halfway, and there is still a steep road we must conquer. Because it started to rain, we took a break while installing raincoats so we did not get wet. After a short rest we are required to continue the journey. And wahh, we were so shocked by the fact that we had to look up to see what we were going through. We thought we should go through it but we had to go upstairs. The terrain we have to pass from the shelter 1. Forms an angle that seems to exceed 75 degrees. As if not believing we could get through it. To go through it we had to walk creeping on a fairly slippery and watery ground due to the rain. Fortunately there are many roots that can be a place for us to hold on to. After going through all that we finally arrived at shelter 2. Relief was able to get to shelter 2, amid a tired feeling whack. We decided to take a break, while eating simple supplies. In the form of bread drinks and honey, as a support stamina. After the tiredness slightly decreased we began to continue the steep journey. We were again surprised by the road terrain we had to deal with. In front of us there was a steep rock ramp that was almost desolate. It's hard to believe we were able to get through it easily. To this day I still can not believe it, if ever through it all. Seeing the field alone, I had doubts about my ability. However, I tried to convince myself and found it easy to pass through. My body feels so light when I have to go upstairs by holding on to a piece of rope diameter no more than 0.5 cm. The rope also looks so fragile with age. Before starting the ascent the Guide did tell us a little about what we were going to face on the trip. Should go through the climb and hold on a rope is already imaginable. However, we never thought that rope like that apparently. Lucky nothing happened. The rope looks strong enough to hold our load. The most worried thing can pass easily. After passing through the steep rocks we were confronted on a muddy road. It was apparently a resemblance to the forest in a Harry Poter movie. We call the forest as the Harry Poter Forest. The sky was getting a little dark when we got there. Down the slippery road nan slippery enough troublesome. my friends who use sandals are quite hassle. I who use the shoes are also hassles, because my heavy shoes began to enter the water mixed with lumpu become wet and heavy. But finally we arrived at the summit. "Top Off Dempo" is our name for this place. Yes this is the highest peak in South Sumatra, and is also one of the highest in the ranks of Bukit Barisan mountain range. The height is approximately 3159 MDPL (Meter of the Sea Surface). We did not decide to take a break, while celebrating our euphoria while taking some pictures to immortalize. We could not linger there, because the sun began to sink and we had to go straight to the plain and set up tents to rest. Upon arriving in the yard we hurriedly set up the tent. After the tent stood up we immediately changed the clothes we were wearing our bodies getting cold from the clothes we wore and damp. After changing clothes we rush to prepare breakfast and warm drinks. While waiting for breakfast ready we eat a drink of liquid milk to increase stamina. As a result my body became fresh again. To be honest I do not really believe in the efficacy of energy drinks, liquid milk and honey. However, after a long and tiring journey I became aware of how the energy drink really had a significant impact on me. After breakfast we decided to rest and joke. While up there we tried to keep our talk so as not to over limit. We know this is a foreign environment for us and there are so many aliens around us that we can not see. We try to respect every creature that inhabits nature by keeping our voices in order not to be too noisy. We fell asleep in our chat until morning. No matter the rain outside and the little water dripping into our tent. Our bodies are so tired that they fall asleep with the sounds. Not dawn has arrived. We all woke up by itself. There is not much we can do in this narrow tent. While the outside is still raining. The stomach began to rumble our sign began to starve. We decided to make an energizing drink and eat a hungry wedge snack. Back we were joking. no rain stopped we decided to get out of the tent. It turned out that the day began to day and the sun began to look high. We missed the sunrise moment. Same thing with the sunset moments that unconsciously missed by the rain from yesterday. Breakfast was ready and we immediately ate breakfast menu in the form of instant noodles mixed with rice. After breakfast we decided to continue our journey to Merapi Volcano. Yes Mount Dempo still has another peak. Peak Merapi dempo is a crater with diameter of about one hundred square meters. The slope consists of pebbles and rocks are quite steep. This time I was forced to just climb with a sweater and a T-shirt. The jacket I used yesterday was damp and had to dry in the sun. So also with my shoes are wet to dry in the sun to dry. Because pretty heavy and wet, of course I will inconvenience when wearing it. Lucky I still have an outdoor slippers that I carry, the weather is a little warm so there is no significant constraint. Before leaving we decided to take pictures for a moment. The trip to Merapi summit was quite heavy. Though the peak looks so close. But it was far enough to go. Rocky coral nan steep stones we must pass. We had to walk up and down using our feet and hands to hold on to the stone. To be honest I was afraid to slip and fall. Fortunately nothing happened with us. Slowly but surely, we finally arrived at the peak of Merapi and wahhh. We were immediately treated to amazing scenery. The wind is pretty high up here. Merapi's green-colored crater looks so close. Got an idea to descend the crater and approach the lake in the middle. However, like that is just a mere wish. The crater wall is steep enough to make it impossible to climb without adequate equipment. Quite a lot of climbers who became victims of death, because trying to get down into the crater. Our guide told us that it took about 6 hours to get there and maximum limited time. Because sulphurous air is toxic to the body. That is why it is very prohibited for us who have not experienced to get there. We did not want to go back and enjoy what we can enjoy. The journey guided us to the highest peak until finally arrived at the peak of Merapi. After taking pictures and enjoying the peak of Merapi we had to repeat the journey yesterday to our place of return. The return trip was easy for me. But apparently after arriving at the door of the rimau line I felt my legs tremble as it descended the stairs. Upon arrival downstairs we rushed to a warm drink and a hot pop noodle breakfast while warm. It's good to warm our moist bodies. After breakfast and cleaning ourselves back to our guide basecamp near the pagaralam market. At the basecam we went back to rest. Enjoyed the food that the guide served and plugged in to go home. Arriving at home feeling tired still felt. Understandably we have just been through a long and tiring journey. Finished.
